Here’s a quick list of recommended music that I picked up recently.
I know Christmas is over, but these are must buy albums. The first is the 5 ep collection by Sufjan Stevens called Songs for Christmas. Over the last 5 years he has recorded an album of Christmas favorites and originals. The packaging is amazing for a set that costs less than $20. It comes complete with a songbook with all of the chords you need to sing along.
Next up is a band called Over the Rhine from Cincinnati. The haunting voice of Karin Bergquist throughout this album of originals called Snow Angels grips you and begs you to listen again and again. A couple of the real standout songs are All I Ever Get For Christms Is Blue” and “Darlin’, Christmas Is Coming.” I found this album via Oh My That’s Awesome!, a great little shopping site.
I then also purchased their latest album, Drunkard’s Prayer. This is a wonderful album, that has the added bonus of not having anything to do with Christmas.
Last up is a disc by a local Dallas Group called the Coffee Nods. For the low price of $15 you get a great little “grown-up, white-guy” rap album called Grown and a killer T-shirt (currently in high rotation). It is interesting to hear someone rap about paying bills and being adult, versus living it up at the club.
