New York in the Fall (0)

Karen and I had the opportunity to visit my favorite city, New York. We stayed at the historic Algonquin Hotel of Dorothy Parker and the round table fame.

Beautiful weather greeted us Friday and Saturday. Friday afternoon, we walked around Greenwich Village. That evening we visited our favorite little Italian joint, Ballato’s. I tried the dish they are known for, rigatoni in a Bolognese sauce, and they make the best calamari. The only thing missing was the Ricotta Cheese Cake.

Saturday started with Skating in Bryant Park. Karen and I look good in the still pictures. Fortunately there was no video of our wobbly legs.

A college student read to us the first stanza of Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant for extra credit. We then visited the Guggenhiem Museum. Too bad we missed the upcoming installation, Spanish Painting from El Greco to Picasso: Time, Truth, and History, by a week. The rest of the afternoon was spent in SoHo and Little Italy.

Finally, we had dinner at famed Picholine. The meal and service were amazing (and Karen saw Kevin Bacon). Karen had the Classics Tasting Menu and I had the Wild Game Tasting menu. Both were filled with fantastic and interesting dishes and of course, the cheese plate.
