True North (0)
Sophia and I went on the first camping trip with our Adventure Guides tribe. I’m sure the Y wouldn’t approve of the use of the word “tribe” as they have removed all of the references to Native Americans from the program formerly known as Indian Princesses. Karen participated with her dad when she little, and Karen has loads of good memories.

Camp Classen, located in the Arbuckle Mountains of Oklahoma is a beautiful camp ground. On of the dads bought hockey masks for trick-or-treating. We had 20 little “Jasons” running around the camp. Unfortunately Sophia’s face had a rough start when she tripped and nearly broke her nose on a wooden walkway. She did manage to scrape it up really bad. The injury resulted in an awkward bandage on her face throughout the trip.

Saturday was filled with activities. Sophia shot a bb gun and a bow and arrow. She didn’t like the gun because she couldn’t see the bb. However, she fell in love with archery.

Sophia also caught a big fish using a string on a stick. There were plenty of dad’s with nice rods and reels, but the only people catching were the kids with a simple worm on a hook. Our fish, who remains unnamed, swims to be caught another day.

We also went horseback riding. Or Sophia rode as I let a giant beast pull me along the trail. Her horse, Montana was huge—the biggest of the horses there. She didn’t appreciate my efforts to stop eating or move in a particular way. As a side note: it hurts when a horse steps on your toe. The cowboy who told us this as we left the stable was not lying.

We had lots of fun around the campfire. We met lots of new people (or at least I did, Sophia knows most of the girls from school) and we are looking forward to our next trip.
