Sophia’s First Hockey Game (0)

I love watching hockey live. Last weekend I got the chance to take Sophia to the home opener of the Dallas Stars. Sophia had been excited about it all week. She enjoyed the food at the game, and she enjoyed the annoying early 20’s women behind us, who she referred to as “her new friends.”
When the Goal buzzer blasted the arena for the first time after a Stars goal, I looked down at Sophia and was surprised to find her holding her ears and crying. Unfortunately for her, the Stars would score twice more, to beat the Devils 3-1. On the last score, she seemed to get used to it and I picked her up as she cheered along with the crowd.
Her favorite part was the bottle race, which is a handful of idiots dressed in bear bottle costumes who race around the ice wearing tennis shoes. She also liked the Zamboni.
Near the end of the game she said, “I like watching hockey, can we come back.” I told her we would come to another game sometime. “Good, we can have cotton candy and sit in front of my new friends again.”

Sophia has learned the Pledge of Allegiance at school. At the State Fair she asked, “What does ‘Pledge of Al-Egypt’ mean?”

Francesca got a CD of children’s songs from her Sunday school class. It has all of the classics. The other day she was singing, “Rock my soul in the bosom of Abraham. It took me a while to figure out what she was actually saying. To get Francesca and Sophia into an uncontrollable laughing fit, I just have to whisper, “Rock my soul and roast my baby hand.”
