Seeing the Sights (in Dalhart?) (0)
Our final day was spent taking photos and taking tours. We took kids and cousins to the canyon (In Dalhart, Rita Blanca Canyon is known as "the canyon," much like the only movie theater is known as "the show.")

I took loads of black and whites of the kids and managed to snap a few digital shots as well. A few are posted at FLICKR. The canyon was as green as it has ever been. Coming from the brown drought-dry grass around Dallas, it was downright lush.

I regret not taking more film. (It is impossible to find 100 speed B&W in Dalhart.) I also regret not taking the time to actually go out to take pictures (not just the kid pictures).

My dad took us on a couple of tours. First we went out to one of his corn circles. He took the girls out into the corn and explained how the plants grew. He picked a small ear and let them taste the baby corn.

We then went out to one of the new dairies. Having produced the video that has helped attract many of the new dairies to the region, I have a little pride when I see one...and then the flies swarm.

The flies at a dairy are unbelievable. The smell isn't great either. While Francesca was generally unnerved by it all, Sophia was fascinated. In particular she enjoyed seeing all of the poop and the varying states that poop was in on its way to becoming fertilizer.
