“First Day of School!” (1)

Last Day

This is a big week for Sophia. Last Friday was her last full day at the daycare she has attended since she was 10 weeks old. Her teacher, Ms. Pam had left for vacation that day, which foiled our plans to get a picture of the two of them together. Pam has been a big influence on Sophia. Many of her drawings are for her teacher. She’s done a great job preparing Sophia for her next educational step.

She also has her first loose tooth. It may fall out any moment! What will the tooth fairy bring? Stay tuned...

First Day!

Today was the first day of Kindergarten. Sophia was filled with a mix of excitement and trepidation. She made it obvious when we arrived that Karen and I had not explained the concept of the uniform well enough. As we walked the hall to the class room, she saw another girl in her class and said, “She has the same dress as me!”

We have been looking forward to school uniforms. It eliminates one of our early morning hassles—deciding what to wear. Now I have to adjust to the rule-intensive world of grade school. It means earlier mornings and drop off lines.

Another big change is the after school routine. I am taking advantage of the flexibility of my work and picking Sophia up from school at 2:50. She will then complete any homework and then we will work on cooking the family meal.

With two working parents, sitting down to eat as a family has been difficult. Karen and I know how important this time together will become. Now it will become a constant. I’m excited about the extra time in the kitchen, and Sophia is ready to be my souse chef! (Wish me luck…)
