Strawberry Gelato (1)

It's not summer without strawberry gelato. This tasty frozen Italian treat has been a staple at our house for years. I've made scores of different types of gelati, but this one always gets rave reviews. It's the first gelato I ever made and the recipe is from Marchella Hazan's Essentials of Italian Cooking. If you don't have this book and you like Italian food, this is the one book to get.
Strawberry Gelato
In a food processor puree 1/2 lbs of fresh strawberries and 3/4 cup of sugar. After the mixture is smooth add 3/4 c water.
In a cold bowl whip 1 c heavy whipping cream until it thickens slightly to the consistency of buttermilk. Fold cream into strawberry mixture.
Freeze an ice cream maker.
Serve slightly softened. Smile.
