City of Angels (0)
Saturday I had the opportunity to do something I don’t normally do-- directing a live show. I sort of volunteered/ couldn’t say no when asked to video tape the musical, City of Angels, at Woodrow Wilson High School.

Being in a high school auditorium and watching the dress rehearsal earlier in the week brought back pleasant memories of the plays that I was in. What an odd time high school was. The importance placed on the strangest things and the change in mindset only a few years later…
Up in the balcony we had 2 cameras and a video switcher. My job was to communicate via headsets with the camera operators, the area of the stage they needed to focus on and when I was using their feed.

Needless to say, it was a good thing we shot two shows. I really needed the first night to get everything figured out. Without the ability to yell “CUT!” after a mistake by me or a camera op, I was out of my element.
The second night was nearly perfect on a technical side. The show itself was ambitious and in places really spectacular. The two male leads have amazing vocal and acting ability. I’m now in the tedious process of watching the show back and editing out any mistakes I made so that DVD’s can be made.
