Charity Event Weekend (0)

Our time was completely taken up by 2 charity events last weekend. The first was for Sophia and Francesca's day care. Every year the parent group has a silent auction to raise money for improvements and bonuses. This year we tried something new-- an adults only casino night and auction.

As the board president, I had lots of responsibilities in pulling this event off. We held the event in the building where my office is located. The advantage was that I got a great deal on the space. The downside was that after everything was set up, I got to play the role of security guard for 3 hours. (I did watch a few episodes of the Shield, which I am STILL behind)

In the backgound you can see the 3.5 feet square dice that a parent built!
Honeymoon in Vegas

The theme was “Honeymoon in Vegas” and we had lots of fun that night. Not only did it go well from a fundraising standpoint, but everyone had a great time together. I had setup a Paypal account and a shopping cart to accept donations. We used that to take credit cards during checkout at the event. It is amazing what can be done with an internet connection these days!

On Sunday we raced in the 5th Annual Code Red Caper. Last year we placed first in a small division (yet still had the second highest point total). This year we were team “Lost.” It was lots of fun, but the puzzles in the limo were much harder. Surprisingly, we came in second in the big division (around 25 teams, and again we came away with the second highest point total).

We have participated in 4 of the 5 years they have had the caper. It is a wildly fun way to raise money for such a worthy cause- Bryan’s House.

Below are a couple of the “easier” puzzles we had to solve. There is also a link to the answers.
