Laguna-Niguel - Part 2 (1)

Karen on the beach.

A stroll on the beach is a great way to top off a morning. Karen enjoyed getting her toes wet and I enjoyed keeping my shoes on. (I'm a "shoes-on" kind of guy.) Along the way we encountered something unexpected-- squirrels. They roamed the nooks and crannies of the cliff side rocks.

They were brazen and had little regard for tourists. I dubbed them the Sand Squirrel. They are smaller than their Texas cousin, and these Californians have some spots that didn't show up all that well in my photo.

The dreaded California Sand Squirrel.

On our last night together in, Laguna we ate at a place we had been to on our previous trip-- French 75. This cozy, hot spot has fantastic food, starting with the best escargot I've ever had. When I ordered it in 2000, Karen fell in love with dipping her bread in the fantastic butter and garlic sauce these snails bake in. (In fact, the whole damn table did.) Since that night Karen has started to occasionally order a dish she was reluctant to even try in the past.

They also make a champagne drink called a French 75 (of course, I had to try the namesake drink). A delicious concoction of champagne, cognac, and lemon juice creates a drink that is festive, tasty and potent.
