Disney World - Part 1 (2)
I meant to do this on the road, but there was no wireless connection at our humble lodge. There was dial-up, but the Wifely Unit didn’t bring her phone cord. When we called the front desk and asked for one, they brought us another remote to our TV instead. (It is very useful to have two remotes for a TV, especially in a channel duel.)
So what does this mean for you? Days of Disney entries!! Sorry, but one of the functions of this weblog is to serve as a more detailed record than my memory seems to hold these days. Thus, the next few days will be filled with loads of pictures and stories from the “Happiest Place on Earth.” I also plan to wrap it up with a tiny speck of insight into what I learned from the experience to help any novices out there.
We spent the late arrival day at the pool. The girls enjoyed the water and Karen and I enjoyed the downtime. Should we have enjoyed it as though it would be our last?

Girls at the Pool
The next day, we got up without a real schedule in mind. We went to the Wilderness lodge and looked around. It is spectacular. We had late morning reservations to meet Aunt Jo and Uncle Doug there for breakfast. I think we were aware of cousin Mike was coming, but it was a pleasant surprise to see Uncle Jim at the Café.
The breakfast came out on a huge skillet filled with eggs, sausage, biscuits, and more. While the food and the company were outstanding, the best part was that Jo, Doug, and Mike were late. The waiter handed them each a wooden horse and made them stand at the front of the restaurant while encouraging the crowd to scream, “Don’t be late!” Then they were forced to ride around the place on their ponies. I begged everyone at the table not to ask for ketchup or talk on their cell-phones. (The later got a waiter to scream that we should all be quiet because someone was on the phone.)

The Group Shot
We made our way to the Magic Kingdom. Both girls loved “It’s a Small World,” and in the line for Peter Pan, Francesca fell asleep. She slept through the ride and into the stroller. Sophia amazingly loved Snow White’s Scary ride and the Dumbo Flying ride. (Karen, who is afraid of heights, did not)
Later when we met the rest the family at EPCOT, Francesca got scared of both of the rides we went on. In Norway she mentioned that she did not want to get on the boat upon seeing the boat from the line. Am I a bad parent for making her go anyway? (I kind of felt like it.)

Cinderella's Castle

Sacked Out
So I have to mention that I enjoy the Lake of Nation’s area of EPCOT as much as any part of Disney World. Even though they are merely representations of various countries, the different exhibits capture a certain essence of each place. I could spend hours walking through the films, rides, food, and pubs.

The Big Ball
We ate at the German Beer Garden. The food was typical German fare. Having eaten in a Swiss-German home, it had a certain authenticity about it (read: filled with meat and heavy as all hell).
Oh, and they served liters of German beer. The end.

Amen, brother. That's one of the functions of my weblog, too.
Did you do Pirates? I love Pirates. You gotta ride Pirates many, many times each time you go to a Disney park. That's a rule.

I didn’t get to ride Pirates. It was one of the few rides I missed while on Francesca Duty. My rule involves Space Mountain, and I did NOT get to ride that enough!
